BEng Honours in Software Engineering with Management (G6N2)

This new degree allows you to study Software Engineering with a Management component to enable you to study the issues involved in managing the production of marketable products and in making business decisions.

Software Engineering is the discipline that studies the building of software systems.

Anybody who can programme can write software, but not anybody who can programme can write good software. Software Engineering will teach you step by step how to write good software, more precisely, it will teach you how to think about writing software.

As a graduate you will have a thorough understanding of both the process and the underlying science of the production of software systems and will possess the engineering skills required to design and implement them.

For details of degree structure and content see degree programme specification.

How could specialists share new ideas and knowledge without getting spammed by e-mail or missing out on important information simply because they are not subscribed to a particular newsgroup? Graham West's final year project proposes a new system where specialists form a network of connections with expressed preferences where people have formed relationships, indicating who they want to receive news/documents from.

What is special about the Edinburgh degree programme

The School of Informatics covers a vast area of research in Informatics with a breadth unparalleled in the UK. Students will have the chance to embark on software engineering projects, which stem from cutting edge, unique research. For example, you could be given the task to create a modelling package for protein interactions as your fourth year project in which your software engineering skills will be applied to research in bioinformatics.
