Plagiarism is the act of copying or including in one's own work, without adequate acknowledgment, intentionally or unintentionally, the work of another, for one's own benefit.
The University of Edinburgh views any case of plagiarism extremely seriously, and is committed to ensuring that plagiarism is, wherever possible, both detected and dealt with appropriately.
Full details of the University's policies and regulations on plagiarism can be found on the University's Plagiarism website.When submitting major items of coursework, in particular the final year undergraduate project and MSc Dissertation, students are required to print off a copy of the Own Work Declaration, complete the form and include it with the submission. For each item of coursework to be submitted, the relevant course guide will indicate whether an Own Work Declaration will be required.
