Costs of Postgraduate Study

Annual costs include a tuition fee, additional programme costs and living expenses. Tuition fees and additional programme costs are payable for each year of active study, typically 1 year for MSc, 2 years for MPhil and 3 years for PhD.

Living costs

It is estimated that you will need £190 per week to cover living expenses. This includes room and board, lunches, personal expenditure and travel within Edinburgh.

Depending upon your personal circumstances, you may also need to budget for other costs, for example, travel to and from Edinburgh.

Scholarships

A wide variety of scholarships and awards may help to cover some or all of your costs.

Working While Studying

There are opportunities for postgraduates to undertake employment within the School, for example, helping with undergraduate teaching as a tutor or demonstrator. However this can only make a minor contribution to your overall budget.

Other employment is normally incompatible with postgraduate study, which requires your full-time commitment, 110%!
