We are always happy to come to you, whether to lead a discussion on Informatics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or Cognitive Science - or to show you and your pupils some of our research work.
Findlay and AIBOs at East Calder Primary School
We visited more than thirty schools in 2007-2008 - and we're willing to travel..
Dear Morna and Gail,
The whole of p6 was amazed at all of the robots you brought in. We enjoyed the robots very much and you and Gail telling us and showing us how these robots work. I think the majority of the class loved AIBO the best. We liked AIBO because he was a fantastic dancer and very intelegent and a heck of a dog.
Mr, Jones, class teacher, says: I think if the class had a extra £3000 they would buy an AIBO!
We liked the EPUCKS also. we dont know how you fit all that technology into one little robot. the EPUCKS were very clever, knowing how to dodge things using light sensors.
Now dont get us started on the connect 4 robot. Nobody - I repeat nobody could beat that thing but maybe Mr Jones could. Even though Mr Jones is probely the best connect 4 player in the school he still could not beat it.
Thank you once again, Scott and Jack and the whole of P6, Lochgelly South.
Thank you say Morna and Gail! So far, Mr Jones is the only teacher brave enough to play the robot in front of his class!
Have a look at some of the SCRATCH PROJECTS created by recent visitors Forrester High School S2 and Armadale Academy S2 (you will need to download a copy of SCRATCH to appreciate them.
We aimed to encourage pupils to consider careers in computer science and related areas - especially bright pupils who might otherwise gravitate towards more traditional areas of study.
IT4U was a fantastic success and we will soon be meeting to decide when to hold IT4U 2009. Watch this space!
The School took part in the Science Festival
at the National Museum of scotland on Chambers Street, 31 March - 4 April.
Our students had a lot of fun helping children to program using the graphical prigramming language SCRATCH,
the Connect 4 Robot was once again largely victorious and our talk on
the future of computing was well attended for all five days.
Stephen helps a new programmer.
