OUTLINE

EUCLID intends to provide wideranging benefits.  The main objective is to develop a streamlined, modern approach to interacting with enquirers, applicants and students which reflects our international standing and the calibre of our teaching and research. This will involve:
COMMUNICATIONS

PLANNING

The EUCLID Project is being implemented in a series of stages, the following areas directly impact on the School of Informatics.  For more detailed information on each of these areas, please select the relevant 'PROGRESS' link.

Functional Area Dates Additional Information
UG Admissions
PROGRESS
Go-Live - Dec 07 Staff in the ITO are now using EUCLID for all UG admissions related admin, using data from the system to create individual applicant letters and manage our PAVD invitations.
PG Admissions
PROGRESS
Training - Sep 08
Go-Live - Oct 08
Staff involved with PGR and PGT admissions are preparing to start training on the new software during the latter part of the summer vacation.  EUCLID have already demonstrated the UG system to our PG staff, and promise to give us an early viewing of the PG admissions system from mid-June 2008.
Programmes (PCAM)
PROGRESS
Training - Early 09
Go-Live - Summer 09
Preparatory work in this area is on-going.  The School is working on producing 'EUCLID-friendly' DPT formats hopefully helping ensure that EUCLID can automatically check all student registrations. Relevant members of staff are due to meet with the EUCLID team in early May 2008.
Courses (CCAM)
PROGRESS
Training - Jan 09
Go-Live - March 09
This area deals with the approval of new courses and maintenance of existing courses.  This admin function is currently handled via WISARD following recommendations made by our Board of Studies. EUCLID will enable academic staff to create courses directly into the system, then have these courses edited, approved and made available to the students all through the new system.
Assessment
PROGRESS
TBC (for 2009/10) The implemtation of this area has been postponed until 2009/10.  It is currently intended that all course related administration from student registration to BoE support will be administered via EUCLID during 2009/10. Informatics have contributed to early discussions about this area, and are waiting for feedback from the EUCLID team.
Timetabling
PROGRESS
Go-Live - April 09 Informatics haven't contributed to these discussions yet.  It is important to note that this is not a timetabling tool, EUCLID didn't ever promise to assist with course timetabling. This area in intended as an enhacement of the existing TimeTab system linked to WISARD and will provide a EUCLID link to the EBIS database, helping make course lecture times and bookings more publicly accessible.
Interoperability
PROGRESS [WIKI]
ON-GOING EUCLID have a stated Interoperability Approach. The School is aware of a number of processes that we believe EUCLID will provide some kind of equivalent functionality for, even if not identical, and for us to continue locally would be considered by the EUCLID board to be duplication.  Regular news and progress will be reported through the Interoperability Wiki.
