Assignment
Make sure you have read and understood chapters 4 and 5 of Computational Explorations in Cognitive Neuroscience, and that you have worked through the explorations in chapters 2 and 3 (not to be handed in).
Work through the explorations in chapters 4 and 5. Hand in answers to the following questions:
4.1, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8
5.1, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6
You will find it helpful if you work through all the simulations in chapter 3 if you have not done so already.
Notes on specific simulations:
In the exploration 4.7.3, you may need to click on PlotEffWt twice to see the plot (the text on page 136 suggests once is enough).
In simulations where you are asked to judge how many units are active, treat activations above 0.5 as active and activations below 0.5 as inactive. You can view unit values in the network window by selecting "act" to monitor (bottom left of screen) and VALUES for Unit Text (top right).
While a simulation is running, clicking on some buttons cause strange things to happen or even a simulator crash. If you want to stop a running simulation, click the STOP button in the control panel.
In the Batch run simulations you may need to click on the "rewind to beginning" button ( |<) in the Batch Log window to get the most recent batch run results displayed.
Your answers should handed in to me before the end of the lecture on November 19th. The subsequent tutorial will go over the answers to the assignment.
